Grodno. The house of Yakov Schwartz.
In Grodno, on the old Karl Marx Street (number 42) there is an architectural monument, which is known as the House of Yakov Schwartz.
The street was founded during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. During the period of the Russian Empire, Kupecheskaya (Merchant's) Street was called. Private houses of artisans and merchants were built here, as well as significant religious buildings. There were many shops.
The house of Yakov Schwartz was built on Kupecheskaya Street in 1888. The building housed residential apartments and institutions. In 1903, Bogdanovich's pharmacy was operating in the house. And in 1915, two pharmacies were already operating: Bogdanovich's pharmacy and Schwartz's pharmacy.
After the Soviet–Polish war and the signing of the Peace of Riga in 1921, the city of Grodno was under the rule of the Polish state until 1939, before the arrival of Soviet power. During the Polish period, the A. Shatilo restaurant worked in the building.
The building has two floors. It has the status of historical and cultural value. In recent years, the monument has been restored. There is an office in the building now.
