Description
The city of Grodno is very full of architectural monuments. They are different in style and time of construction. One of the most unusual monuments of the city is considered to be a wooden lamus, which was built in the 18th century next to the Catholic monastery of brigitok.
The Lamus in Grodno is the oldest wooden building in Belarus. For a long time, historians assumed that the building was erected in the 17th century, but recent research has shown that the monument was built in the 18th century. The building was used both as a residential and at the same time for household needs.
After the war, the lamus was taken from the church and given to a medical facility. In recent years, the lamus has been returned to the church. Repairs have been carried out. It is planned to open a museum in the building.

Grodno. The wooden lamus of the Brigit Monastery
The oldest wooden building in Belarus is located in Grodno - this is the lamus near the Brigitte Church. It is hidden in the thicket of stone buildings of the historical center, and if you wander through the narrow stone streets of Grodno, you will not find this wooden building if you do not know about its exact location.
At first, historians assumed that lyamus dates back to the 17th century, when the Catholic monastery of Brigitok was being built. The search by historians allowed us to establish a more accurate date of construction of this wooden building. And now it is believed that the lamus was built in 1769. Part of the building was residential, where the nuns of the monastery were located, and part was used for household needs.
Lamus was owned by Catholics until 1950. Then the building was taken over as a medical facility and the Grodno Regional Neuropsychiatric dispensary was located here. Since 2003, the lamus has been returned to the Catholic Church. A few years ago, the restoration of a unique architectural monument by specialists from Poland began. The restoration takes place in several stages. It is planned to open a museum exhibition here in the future.
