Grodno. Yosel Hasid's house.
In Grodno, on ancient Karl Marx Street (number 38A), there is an architectural monument, the Yosel Hasid House. The house is located deep in the courtyard of houses No. 36 and No. 40.
The building was built during the Russian Empire in 1900. In those years, the street was called Kupecheskaya (Merchant's) and houses of merchants and artisans were located here. There were many shops.
The building has historical and cultural value, and is built in an eclectic style. The house is stone, two-storied, not plastered. It is built of yellow brick and painted with red paint. The decor has been preserved on the front facade.
During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, there was a "Matskevich Ground" on this place. Some historians believe that this was Ignat Matskevich's land. And for some time until the 1870s, there was no building on this site.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the house belonged to Yosel Hasid. The premises were rented out for residential apartments. During the period of the Polish state from 1921 to 1939, there were also residential apartments.
In recent years, the monument has been restored. The surrounding area has been landscaped. The building houses the World of Bees store and residential apartments.
