Grodno. The Yemelyanovs House.
In Grodno, on Karl Marx Street (house number 30), there is an architectural monument known as the Yemelyanovs House. Karl Marx Street is one of the oldest in the city, and began to take shape during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The Yemelyanovs House was built in a prestigious quarter opposite one of the oldest Catholic architectural complexes in Grodno, the Brigit Monastery.
The house was built in 1886 during the era of the Russian Empire in the eclectic style, when K. Marx Street was called Kupecheskaya (Merchant's). Many merchants and artisans lived here. Shops and workshops were located. The building is stone, two-storied, plastered. There is a balcony in the center of the house. A significant part of the decoration of the front facade has not been preserved to our time, but was lost during the period of major repairs.
The building was built on one floor with a mezzanine. The first owner of this house was F. Yemelyanova is the wife of a collegiate counselor. In 1894, the chamber of the judicial investigator for important cases of the 1st Grodno police station was operating. In 1912, the building was acquired by a wealthy peasant Anton Bursa. During this period, the new owner made an addition to the second floor.
After the Peace of Riga in 1921, Grodno came under the rule of the Polish state until the arrival of Soviet power in 1939. During this period, the premises of this house were rented out. After the war, the building housed residential apartments.
Now there is a pharmacy and a real estate agency in the house.
