Grodno. Mikhalsky House.
The Michalsky House is an architectural monument in the historical center of Grodno on Karl Marx Street (number 24).
The building was built during the time of the Russian Empire in 1889, when the street was named Kupecheskaya. Previously, this place was the home of Kamilia Gladko, who married a Russian named Mikhalsky. During the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 18th century, there was a tavern here that belonged to the Catholic monastery of Brigitok. Some historians believe that Mikhalsky's house has fragments of an ancient tavern. It is possible that this is the foundation and fragments of the wall.
It was in this building that the famous Belarusian and Polish writer Eliza Ozheshko (1841-1910) lived.
Ozheshko lived with her mother in 1857-1858. They occupied nine rooms with a large salon.
After the Great Patriotic War, the building was occupied by the regional tuberculosis dispensary. Then there was a medical school dormitory here.
In the winter of 2010, the roof collapsed in the building and the renovation of the monument began. After the reconstruction of the building, the second floor was added. The house is currently under renovation.
