Description

The Cheslav Nemen Museum was opened in Starye Vasilishki in 2010. In this small village, where about 30 people now live, a rock musician was born in 1939, who, it is believed, was ahead of his time thanks to his creativity. He became an internationally renowned singer and composer. The exposition of the club-museum is warmly and lovingly dedicated to this talented musician.

The club is a museum of the talented musician Czeslaw Nemen.

The museum's exposition is located in the house where Czeslaw Wydzycki (the musician's real name) lived until he was 19 years old, before moving to Poland, where his musical career began. His songs represented a unique combination of Eastern and Western cultures, combining rock and poetry, classical and popular music. However, the real recognition came to Cheslav Nemen only after his death in 2004. Now the musician's fans admit that they could not immediately appreciate his talent.

Since the early 2000s, tourists began to come to Old Vasilishki en masse, wanting to find out where Nemen grew up. They even come from countries such as Canada, the USA, Australia, India, Sri Lanka and Cameroon and others.

The house, built by Czeslaw's grandfather, was empty at that time, but now there is a museum there, which contains various materials about Czeslaw's work and recreates the atmosphere of his youth: a living room with a piano and a gramophone, a bedroom with metal beds and tapestries on the walls, a kitchen with a whitewashed stove. Here you can look at the personal belongings that belonged to his family, listen to the music that the Vydzhitsky family loved. On the dining table there is a traditional dish for Old Basilisks: fried rye bread with garlic and salted homemade lard.

In the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Starye Vasilishki, Father Czeslaw Nemen was the church organist. The boy often came here, despite the fact that it was forbidden in the Soviet years. He was baptized in the same church, and later, as a child, sang in the church choir. Today, there is a memorial plaque in the temple in memory of the great musician, to whom "the Lord God gave an unusual musical talent."

Czeslaw Nemen's Club Museum in Starye Vasilishki is open from 10.00 to 19.00 (weekends – Monday, Tuesday). It is better to notify about your arrival in advance by calling the number on the official website. If necessary, the tour can be conducted even on a day off.
