Description
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Ishchelno, Shchuchin district, is famous not only for its beautiful late Baroque architecture and luxurious interior, but also for the fact that the only working sundial in Belarus is located on its territory. They are worth seeing and comparing with modern times. Unfortunately, these watches will not show the exact time, but the very fact of their presence here is surprising.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Ishchelno, Shchuchinsky district, is famous for its beautiful late Baroque architecture and luxurious interiors.
The church in this area was founded on April 30, 1515, by podkormiy of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Andrei Dovoina. It was originally a wooden church, for the maintenance of which Dovoina allocated part of his inheritance. During the Northern War, Swedish troops destroyed the bells and damaged the building, requiring significant rebuilding.
In 1761, a new brick church was built thanks to the efforts of the Grodno cornet Joseph Val. The new stone temple has retained the size and system of altars of its predecessor and stands in the same place.
The one-nave two-towered temple with a five-sided apse was built in the late Baroque style. The main facade stands out in the composition, square towers protrude from the main volume. The side facades end with a cornice, and the upper part is divided by two rows of arched windows.
Throughout its history, the church became an important center, and later a school was opened here and a hospital for the poor operated. The temple witnessed many historical events, including active participation in the uprising of 1863. Among the interesting points of its existence, it is known that shortly after the opening of the school for the gentry in the 1780s, it closed due to a lack of students. Also present in the churches was the famous priest Adam Falkovsky, who was shot for his ideas.
During the revolutions and military events of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as during the Soviet era, the Trinity Church was practically not damaged. He managed to preserve the decorations, historical interiors and church utensils, and his facades in the late Baroque style were not destroyed.
The church, made in the late Baroque style, has preserved the ancient original organ for nine voices. There are 3 altars and a Rococo pulpit. The main altar has two tiers and is decorated with stucco. The side altars are topped with sculptural compositions.
There is a 19th-century belfry tower in the courtyard.
Today, the church is more than 260 years old and it is a real historical monument that is worth seeing. It's pretty simple on the outside, but very beautiful on the inside.…
