The Church of St. John the Baptist in the agricultural town of Vasilishki is an architectural monument of the late Baroque.
The history of the church dates back to the 17th century, although in different sources you can find different dates of its foundation.
According to historical records, a wooden church dedicated to St. John the Baptist was built in Vasilishki in 1635 with the support of Pavel Stefan Sapieha.
Later, on August 14, 1652, on the initiative of Martin Limont, the Dominican monastery was founded at the church. Unfortunately, as a result of a fire in 1702, both the church and the monastery were destroyed.
It was not until 1769 that the abbot of the monastery, Mikhail Mezheevsky, began construction of a new brick church, which was consecrated by Bishop Valentin Volchatsky on November 30, 1790.
The monumental temple with eight sides forms a majestic facade with two three-tiered towers. The architectural decoration includes curved elements, pilasters with decorative elements, creating an expressive appearance of the building. The temple is surrounded by a rubble stone fence with three-arched gates. Behind the building of St. John the Baptist Church there is a plebania and a real picturesque park.
In the very center of the temple there is an icon "Epiphany", and there are also seven altars decorated in Rococo style.
Since 1990, Priest Stanislav Pytel has renovated the church, which has helped preserve its inner beauty.
Today, the church has a Sunday school. It also attracts a large number of travelers and pilgrims.
It's just a beautiful and magnificent church. It has been wonderfully preserved to this day and is definitely worth a visit.
