Staraya Vadva. Intercession Church.

There is no exact version about the time of construction of the Intercession Church in Staraya Vadva. Some researchers believe that it was built in the 18th century, while others believe that it was built in the 19th century and that the founder of the temple is the owner of a local estate, Nikolai Rakuza. According to legend, Mr. Rakuza planned to build a church in another village, but the horses transporting the bricks stopped on one of the hills, where they then built the Pokrovsky Church. Some researchers believe that the Cathedral of St. Joseph in the provincial city of Mogilev served as an example for the construction of an Orthodox church. There was a parish school near the church. In Soviet times, the temple was closed and a club was made here. The church is built in the style of classicism, and the dominant feature is an octagonal drum with a hemispherical dome. A four-column portico decorates the main entrance. The interior is painted with frescoes. Around the temple there is a local cemetery. Among them, Mr. N. Rakuza himself is buried here.
