Description
On Sovetskaya pedestrian street in Grodno, there is an ancient architectural monument that belonged to a merchant named Chertok. The house is stone, one-storey. Covered gable roof. At different times, the building housed various shops and establishments. During the period of the Polish state at the beginning of the 20th century, the editorial offices of two Polish newspapers worked here. 'The Pearl' jewelry store is now located here.

Grodno. Chertok's house (Sovetskaya St., 21).
In the city of Grodno, on Sovetskaya pedestrian street, there is an old building that is known as the house of merchant Chertok. The building is stone, one-story, has the status of historical and cultural value. Covered gable roof.
The building was built during the Russian Empire in 1866. The house was rebuilt in 1875 and in 1895. There used to be a four-pitched roof. During a fire in 1885, the monument was significantly damaged and became a one-story building with an attic.
At different times, various shops, shops and establishments were located in the building: the photo studio of Chaim Eliash Emovich Binkovich (1896-1903), the printing house of David Meilakhovich, the midwife Klyachevskaya lived, the photo studio of M. Rubinstein worked, the library and bookstore of Shantyr, the hotel "English", the Malinovsky pharmacy store.
After the Peace of Riga in 1921, Grodno was part of the Polish state until 1939. The editorial office of the newspaper "Kresov's Diary" and "Kresov's Polish Printing House" worked in the building.
After the Great Patriotic War, the regional library operated. 'The Pearl' jewelry store has been operating since 1970.
