Grodno. Sovetskaya Street. Sapieha Palace.
In Grodno, on Sovetskaya pedestrian street, there is a stone three-story building with the status of historical and cultural value and known as Sapieha Palace, Solomon Lapin House, or Khvelevichskaya House.
It is located at the intersection of Sovetskaya and Dominikanskaya streets (at ul. Sovetskaya, 10). The monument has been rebuilt many times and now has the features of eclectic architecture. It was built at the end of the 18th century as the Sapieha magnate's palace.
The house was originally two storeys high. There were residential apartments, shops and institutions here. There was a "Russian Book Trade" store, a Zhuravsky pharmacy, a notary office of Basnin, a bakery and eight apartments - this was at the beginning of the 20th century.
After the Riga Peace of 1921, Grodno came under Polish rule until 1939. During this period, Zhuravsky's pharmacy in 1926 and a restaurant operated here. Fruchta. A little later in the 1930s, there was a haberdashery and hosiery store "Tsekhansky and Sons".
After the Great Patriotic War, the second floor was occupied by teaching and party rooms, as well as a workshop for vulcanizing tires and filling galoshes, a tailoring workshop and a bakery for making confectionery products.
In 1970, the building was reconstructed and the third floor was added.
Now there are several shops and departments of the administration of the Leninsky district of Grodno in the building.
