Mogilev. Men's gymnasium.

The Mogilev Male Gymnasium was founded during the Russian Empire in 1809. And the building itself was built a little earlier and originally belonged to the military. It was erected on Vetranaya Street, now it is a pedestrian Leninskaya Street. The building is brick, two-story, L-shaped in plan. There was a church of Alexander Nevsky next to the gymnasium. Many well-known figures studied and taught at the educational institution: the revolutionary-populist Mykola Sudzilovsky - the first president of the Republic of Hawaii, Yerofei Kastenich, doctor of medicine, general Mikhail Chernyaev, jurist Ivan Faynitsky, philologist Ivan Nasovich, writer and public figure Mykhailo Gromyka, Davyd Landau - the father of physicist -mathematician, Nobel laureate Lev Davidovich Landau, archaeologist Adam Kirkor, one of the leaders of the white movement during the civil war, general U. Mai-Mayevsky, revolutionaries Panteleimon Lepyashinsky, Ryhor Isaev and Siarhei Kovalik, local historian and historian Matsvey Fursau, entomologist Nikolai Arnold, geographer and traveler Mikalai Uronchenko. In Soviet times, the building housed a secondary school, where writers Mikhail Shumau and Mikhail Weller, local historian and writer Ales Stankevich studied. Now the building houses the "Alisa" shopping center. And in the yard in the new buildings - gymnasium No. 3. On the territory of the gymnasium there is a photo exhibition that tells about the history of the institution.
