Mogilev. Pozharny lane.

In the historical center of Mogilev, an alley with a century-old history has been preserved, and there are quite a lot of architectural monuments on it. The alley originates from the central Pervomaiskaya Street and goes to Karl Marx Street, the former Zelenaya Street. The length of the alley is about 500 meters.

Before the revolution, the alley consisted of two parts, and had the names Postal and Fire. After all, at the intersection with Leninskaya Street, and in those days Bolshaya Sadovaya, the building of the provincial post office was built in the 19th century. And the part of the alley from the post office to K. Mars Street was called Postal Street.

The name of the Fireman alley was given by the local fire department, which still occupies an entire block in its former place. At the fire station there is an exhibition of old fire equipment, a local history museum of fire fighting and a restaurant "101".

In the early years of Soviet power, Pozharny Lane was renamed in honor of the German revolutionary K. Liebknecht, and the historical name was returned only a few years ago.

There are 2 pre-revolutionary buildings at the intersection of Zaulka and Pervomaiskaya Streets, formerly Steklovskaya and Dneprovskaya. A three-storey red brick house, this is the building of the former Metropol Hotel. It was in this hotel that officers and employees of the headquarters lived during the First World War. It was in this hotel that, after the suppression of Kornilov's military rebellion in August 1917, General Lavr Kornilov was arrested for several days along with his associates before being deported to the city of Bykhov.

Opposite is a two-storey stone building, which was built in the 19th century and belonged to the Garnet brothers. Ignatius and Alexander Granat were publishers in the Russian Empire and published the famous dictionary "Encyclopedic Dictionary of Pomegranates".

Pre-revolutionary buildings have been preserved between Pervomaiskaya Street and the intersection with Leninskaya Street. In one of these buildings in the 1920s and 30s there was the Dneprovskaya Hotel, where the famous scientist, philologist, academician Viktor Barkovsky (1900 – 1982) lived for several years.

Between Leninskaya Street and Pionerskaya Street on the right side there is a small stone building, which now houses a boxing hall. This is the building of the former merchant synagogue, which was built in the early 20th century.
