Mogilev. Silberman House

Once upon a time, in pre-revolutionary times, Vetryanaya Street in the center of Mogilev, and then its name was Bolshaya Sadovaya, was considered elite. Wealthy burghers and artisans, merchants and industrialists built their mansions here. In a word, the elite of the then Mogilev. There is not much left of that former architectural grandeur, but what is there will amaze you with its scale and beauty.

Perhaps the most beautiful building on Bolshaya Sadovaya was the house of Sarah Zalmanovna Silberman. It is located opposite Bobovik's house, where the Arkady Kuleshov Moscow State University building is now. Now you will not find this house if you focus on architectural decoration and beauty. Indeed, in Soviet times in the 1960s, all the decor from the main facade was destroyed. And now the facade is very ordinary, flat and no different. And if you see old photos of the building, then note that this mansion was decorated with numerous stucco and decor. There were decorative vases above the cornice. Even the drainpipes were finished with carving and forging on metal.

The Silberman family had a high status in pre-revolutionary Mogilev. They had several factories and enterprises. Part of the mansion was occupied directly by Silberman himself, and part of the building was rented out. After the revolution, the building was given over to one of the most significant Soviet state institutions, which was called the Supreme Economic Council and translated as the "Supreme Council of the National Economy of the RSFSR". After all, in the first years after the revolution, Mogilev was part of Soviet Russia. And it was from this building that the management of enterprises of the Mogilev province took place.

The building is three-storeyed, stone, with an outbuilding. Now the building houses shops and residential apartments.
