Description
In the historical center of Mogilev, near Ordzhonikidze Square, there is an ancient Karl Marx Street. The street was called the Green One. Wealthy Mogilev burghers and nobles built their mansions here. There were also several schools here. One school belonged to Jews. And this is not surprising, because a hundred years ago, half of the city's population were Jews. The building is a three-storey stone building built in the 19th century. The Jewish Talmud Torah school was located here. The school was built at the expense of a wealthy Jewish merchant Ratner.

Mogilev. The Jewish Talmud Torah School
In the historical center of Mogilev there is an ancient K. Marx Street, formerly called Zelenaya. There are several architectural monuments on the street. If you go to K. Marx from Ordzhonikidze Square, then on the right the corner house is a 19th-century building of the former paramedic and midwife school, and a hundred meters to the left you will see a three-story red brick building. This is a former Jewish school, the so-called Talmud Torah.
The building was built at the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries in the Art Nouveau style. The school was built at the expense of the merchant of the first guild, S. I. Rotner. Mostly orphans and children from poor families studied here. The course of study at the school lasted for 6 years and in addition to religious subjects, Jewish literature and language, the basics of arithmetic were also taught here. It was a modern Talmud Torah in which craft classes were also opened. So that students can get a specialty during their studies. And under this Talmud Torah, a vocational school was opened in 1899, which in 1903 was named the Jewish vocational school. The school was built in a separate building in another part of the city, near Bykhovsky market.
To date, the building of the former Talmud Torah has been restored. There is a medical facility here.
