Mogilev. House of Soviets.
The Mogilev House of Councils was built in 1939 under the project of moving the capital from Minsk to Mogilev. Since the state border at that time was 30 kilometers from Minsk, after the Treaty of Riga, they wanted to move the capital to Mogilev. According to this project, a number of administrative and residential buildings were built in Mogilev: the House of Soviets, the House of Lenin, the House of Stalin, the House of Budzeny and others. It was assumed that the Belarusian government would work in the House of Soviets. Architect Joseph Langbard. This is the same architect who built the Government House in Minsk. The architectural style is constructivism. Even before the war, official institutions started working in the House of Soviets. During the war, under the Nazis, there were stables here. After the war, carpentry workshops for German prisoners of war. Later, the families of officials lived here, there was a museum of local history, a newspaper editorial office where the poet Vasil Matevushov worked. The building is now occupied by the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
