Grodno. The house of the vice-administrator of the 18th century.
In Grodno, on Tizengauz Square, an 18th-century building has been preserved, which is known as the house of the vice-administrator. The building was built in the historical quarter of Gorodnitsa. The house was designed on behalf of Anthony Tiesenhaus (1733-1785), the Grodno headman, podskarbiy of the Lithuanian court, philanthropist, public and political figure in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the time of King Stanislav August Poniatowski.
The building was part of the architectural ensemble of the 18th century on Gorodnitsa. The architects are Mezer and Sacco. The building was like a "guest house" designed to accommodate guests.
At the end of the 18th century, a representative of the gentry family, Matey Tadeusz Eismont, lived in this building. He was the vice-administrator of the Grodno Economy and dealt with financial issues. The building was presented to Eismont by the last king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanislav Poniatowski.
During the time of the Russian Empire, at the beginning of the 19th century, there was a hospital in the building, then the post office of the Grodno province was located here.
After the Great Patriotic War, the Central Historical Archive of the BSSR worked in the building. In recent years, the premises in the building have been renovated. In front of the building there is a sculpture "Bench of architects", which depicts architects Mezer and Sacco.
