Grodno. The 'Krivaya ofitsyna' buiding.
In the city of Grodno, in the historical quarter on Tizengauz Square, there is an architectural monument called 'Krivaya ofitsyna'. The building was built in the 1760s – 1770s of the 18th century. And this building was part of the architectural ensemble on the main square of Gorodnitsa, which at that time was a suburb of Grodno, but is now located in the city center.
The owner of Gorodnitsa was the last king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanislav August Ponyatovsky. Anthony Tizengauz (1733-1785), a well–known public and political figure, philanthropist, podskarbiy nadvorny Litovsky and starosta of Grodno, supervised the work and supervised the construction.
The architect of the building, according to the researchers, was Mezer, who built many buildings in Grodno. Italian-born architect Giuseppe Sacco also took part in the construction.
In 1780, the building was signed in the documents as the Theater ofitsyna.
Another building was erected nearby, which was intended for the training and accommodation of the artists of the Tiesenhaus Theater. During this period, in the 1770s, a theater and music school appeared and operated here on Gorodnitsa. It is believed that the Grodno school of A. Tiesenhaus was one of the first in Europe, and possibly the first.
Students at the school were taught not only to play instruments, but also singing, music theory, and musical notation. Dancing was taught. The teachers were famous masters of their craft from Europe. Later, the school was moved to the city of Postavy.
In the 19th century, building was renovated and rebuilt, and the premises were rented out.
