Grodno. Lyamus on Gorodnitsa.

In the historical center of Grodno, there is a district called Gorodnitsa, which was formed in the 18th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Since then, several beautiful stone architectural monuments have been preserved in that quarter. One of these buildings is the stone lyamus, which locals also call lyamus on Gorodnitsa.

Gorodnitsa district was created in the 18th century on the outskirts of Grodno on the initiative of the public and political figure Anthony Tizengauz (1733-1785).

Tizengauz was an extraordinary man of his time. He had the opportunity and desire to create something new and unusual in the country. He held significant government positions - podskarbiy the Lithuanian court and starosta of Grodno, was a patron of the arts.

According to Tizengauz, it was planned to create a cultural and industrial center for fifteen hundred people in Gorodnitsa. The area was built according to the project of architects Johann Meser and Giuseppe Sacco.

The Lyamus was built in the second half of the 18th century as a warehouse, as manufacturing was developing very rapidly in Grodno at that time. At the beginning of the 20th century, when Grodno was part of Poland after the Riga Peace of 1921 until 1939, there was a hotel in the building. With the advent of Soviet power, it was an apartment building.

Lyamus is a monument of residential and economic architecture. The building is stone, two-storied with an attic. It has a rectangle in the plan. Covered with a hip roof. It has an irregular interior layout.
