The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is a monument of folk architecture, a symbol of faith of local residents.
The ancient wooden Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Verkhnee has its own history, documented since 1767. In 1840, due to its dilapidated condition, the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Mosar was closed. The bells from this shrine were transferred to the Uniate church of the village of Verkhnee, and the main relic, the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, was also delivered. In 1855, the church was substantially renovated at the expense of the local landowner Snitko, which allowed him to continue his ministry.
The church is an example of folk architectural craftsmanship. The temple consists of three main parts forming its spatial structure: a rectangular vestibule, the main prayer hall and the apse. The structure of the log cabins ends with gable roofs, and above the apse the roof has a hip structure.
In 1961, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior was closed and converted into a warehouse, which led to its desolation. Only in 1989, after many years of neglect, the church was returned to the faithful and services resumed in it, which became an important event for the local community.
In 2003, renovation and restoration work was carried out in the temple, which made it possible to preserve its architectural heritage and continue the traditions of spiritual life.
Today, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is an object of historical and cultural heritage of the 3rd category. It continues to serve as a place of prayer and spiritual communion, preserving the memory of its rich history and significance for the inhabitants of the village of Verkhnee.
