Shchuchin. Church of Archangel Michael
In the historical center of Shchuchin, two religious buildings have been preserved - the Catholic Church of St. Theresa and the Orthodox Church of Archangel Michael. Both churches date back to the 19th century. The church was built in 1864-1865 from brick and rubble according to a standard design. The Orthodox shrine was consecrated in October 1865, a memorial plaque in memory of this significant event has been preserved. The church was designed for about two hundred people, 4651 rubles from the treasury were spent on its construction. In addition to Shchuchin itself, the parish at the Church of Archangel Michael included about 20 nearby villages, and by 1911 it had 1261 parishioners. During the Soviet era, the church was open.
The church was built in pseudo-Russian style. The building consists of several parts: a vestibule - a bell tower, a refectory, the main volume - a prayer hall and a pentagonal apse. The facades are decorated with kokoshniks.
There are several ancient burial sites around the temple. In recent years, the church has been renovated. You can visit the church.
