The small town of Shchuchin has a well-preserved historical center. In recent years, the Drutsky-Lyubetsky Palace of the 18th-19th centuries has been restored. And if you go beyond the lake, then right on the mountain on the right side you will see a whole architectural complex of the 19th century in the classical style - this is the Church of St. Teresa of Avila and the College of the Piarist Order. The church is active and can be visited.

Shchuchin. Church of St. Theresa and Monastery of St.

The first Catholic parish in Shchuchyn was founded in the 15th century. The Catholic church flourished in the city in the 18th and 19th centuries, when a Piar school operated here. The Catholic Piar order was founded by the Pope in the 16th century, and the main goal of the order was the education and upbringing of children. At the beginning of the 18th century, a Piar college was built, and the Church of St. Theresa was built at the college as early as 1829.

The Piarist College in Shchuchyn is a secondary educational institution. In 1718, the owner of Shchuchyn, Jerzy Józefovich-Khlebnicki, invited Piarist monks, who opened a school at the local church. After her father's death, his daughter Teresa took over the care of the college. The Piarists received significant donations from the Sapiehas, the Pats family, and the Drucki-Lubecki family. The college taught oriental languages and had a pharmacy. In 1783, 119 students studied at the college and 5 teachers worked there. At the end of the 18th century, Stanislav Yundil, a professor at the University of Vilnius, a botanist and zoologist, and a doctor of philosophy, taught here. Famous graduates of the college include Ignat Domeyko (1802-1889), a public figure and scientist, and a national hero of Chile; Julian Korsak (1806-1855), a poet; Casimir Narbut (1738 – 1807) – philosopher and teacher.

The founder of the church was Prince Francis-Ksawery Drucki-Lubecki. After the anti-Russian uprising of 1831, the college and monastery were closed, but the church continued to operate. According to Polish time, in 1927, the activities of the PRs, who had been here before the war, resumed. The church was closed in 1954.

The church was handed over to Catholic believers and restored in 1989. Currently, the church is also served by Piarist monks.

The Church of St. Theresa is an architectural monument in the classical style. It has a cross-shaped dome volume. The huge dome on the octagonal drum dominates. The Piarist College has been restored near the church. A beautiful flower garden and park area are laid out next to the church.
