Description

The museum in the Bunker was opened in 2017. It is located just 3 km from the city of Shchuchin and was in Soviet times a top-secret facility that controlled nuclear weapons. There were five such bunkers in the Soviet Union. To date, the Shchuchin bunker is the only one that has survived. You can visit it as a tourist with an excursion. Today, the Museum of the Cold War is organized here and its creators have tried to preserve everything in the same form that was created during the Soviet era.

Bunker-77

The Shchuchin bunker had the call sign "Senior". It was disguised as a collective farm garden. A large number of fruit trees were planted around it, which still grow on its roof. There is no road to the secret facility, but just a concrete road covered with sand. Even from the height of the plane, this place did not arouse interest. There were signal blockers next to the Bunker. An egg-shaped object has been built. It is this form that is capable of withstanding a nuclear strike.

The bunker consists of two parts - ground and underground. Nobody knows what is underground even now, as the lower level of the military, who left it, was flooded with water. The owners of the museum periodically pump out the water, but it is not possible to drain it, since a perfect electronic flooding system was used here.

The depth of the bunker is approximately 20 m. In the ground part, everything remained as in the Soviet Army. The walls of the Bunker are made of reinforced concrete 2.5 m thick, and a 2 m layer of earth is poured on top. The bunker area is almost 1,000 m2.

The entire complex is located on an area of 8.5 hectares. The bunker has preserved a command post, military computers, about 50 classrooms, living rooms, a medical center, a dining room, a bathroom and the command post itself. The owners of the museum decided not to change anything. The accumulated garbage was removed and some exhibits were added to the furniture.

At first, those who served here came to the museum. The officers talked about everyday army life, handed over gas masks, maps and other items. 'Bunker 77' got its name based on the years of construction. It was built from 1974 to 1977. All the mechanisms in the museum are now solid, proven and working with a bang. A slightly higher atmospheric pressure was deliberately maintained here so that the outside air could not enter here on its own. It's very cold in the museum right now.

In 2024, according to the results of the "Get to Know Belarus" competition held by the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, 'Bunker 77' won in the "Museum of the Year" nomination.

The scale, excellent preservation and authenticity of 'Bunker 77' allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Cold War. Here you can understand and feel, not just in words, that the USSR was once a global giant! This is a very interesting and unusual place to visit.
