The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the agricultural town of Rakovichi is a significant architectural monument and an important spiritual center for local residents.
The most common version is that the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1876, although some sources point to 1910. The church is designed in a retrospective Russian style, which is characterized by a harmonious combination of traditional architectural forms and decorative elements.
One of the distinctive features of the temple is the use of rubble stone in combination with plastered decorative elements, which gives it a unique appearance. The architectural composition also includes a fence with a front gate, which complements the overall appearance of the building and creates an atmosphere of solemnity.
The miraculous icon of the Mother of God, known as the "Rakovichi" icon, is kept inside the church. This icon is one of the few Belarusian icons about which there is sufficient reliable information. The appearance of the icon dates back to the end of the 18th century and it got its name from the village of Rakovichi, where the temple is located.
According to local legend, the miraculous icon was found by the landowner Mokretsky, to whom the Most Holy Theotokos appeared in a dream and indicated the place where to look for her image. The next day, the landowner and his servant went to the river and saw the icon floating against the current. He accepted this phenomenon as a sign and, at his own expense, built a church on the spot where the icon had stopped. This event, according to legend, took place in 1748, which connects the phenomenon of the miraculous icon with the history of the temple.
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rakovichi not only serves as a place of worship, but is also an important cultural heritage site that attracts the attention of researchers and pilgrims.
