Shchuchin. Drutsky-Lyubetsky Palace.
In the 18th century, the place where the palace is located was on the very outskirts of the town of Shchuchin. The building belonged to the sub-treasurer of Lithuania Shchuka, and then to Scipione del Campo.
The palace in Shchuchin was built in the second half of the 18th century in the classical style. The building was constructed according to the design of the architect de Flehner in the middle of a park of regular planning. The park was created with the participation of the famous Belarusian botanist, zoologist and naturalist Stanislav Yundil (1761 – 1847).
In the 19th century, the palace and park ensemble acquired new owners – the princes Drutsky-Lyubetsky. And the new rulers significantly rebuilt the palace. The new building was designed by a Vilnius architect in 1892-1895 under Prince Vladislav Drutsky-Lyubetsky. After the First World War, Prince Jan Vladislavovich Drutsky-Lyubetsky (1898-1990), the last owner of the palace, returned to the palace.
The palace was built in the classical style. Some researchers note that the building in Shchuchin is very similar to the Small Trialon Palace, which is located on the territory of Versailles in France. The building is symmetrical, rectangular in plan. Before the revolution, the palace premises were heated by fireplaces and stoves. The interiors were decorated with beautiful furniture and paintings. There was a large ancient archive of documents from the 16th-19th centuries. Some of the documents and valuables are now in Poland.
During the Soviet era, the building housed administrative institutions and a military unit. Now, after restoration, the palace houses a local history museum, which can be visited. Right in front of the palace there is a beautiful lake with a landscaped embankment.
