Shklov. Tourist complex "Tales of the Bald Mountain".

In a picturesque pine forest on the banks of the Dnieper River, just two kilometers from Shklov, there is a unique tourist and excursion complex "Lysaya Gora" (Bald Mountain). This is a place where ancient history, mythology and modern family vacations are harmoniously intertwined, creating a unique atmosphere of magic that attracts guests from all over Belarus.

Bald Mountain is not just a hill. This is the highest point of the Nizhninsky moat, a unique geological monument of nature. The age of the fault itself, which is 7.7 hectares, is estimated at 500-700 million years, and radiocarbon dating of the wood found here has shown a date of more than 50 thousand years. In 1965, Belarusian scientists discovered this interglacial peat bog outcrop, and later at the 11th Congress of the International Union for the Study of the Quaternary Period, the Nizhninsky Moat was recognized as a unique natural object capable of competing with similar formations in Canada, Australia and the USA. The flora of the moat consisted of 140 species of plants.

The name of the mountain is shrouded in mysticism. According to East Slavic folklore, "Bald Mountain" is strongly associated with witchcraft and supernatural forces - according to legend, it was here that witches held their sabbaths. Irina Gapeeva, a senior researcher at the Shklov Museum of Local Lore, does not exclude that traditional festivals and rituals were held on the mountain in pagan times, and the hill itself could serve as an observation post on the way "from the Varangians to the Greeks".

From a thirty-meter height, a breathtaking panorama of Shklov and the Dnieper River opens up - a view that leaves no one indifferent.

The history of the complex began in 2003, when Bald Mountain received the status of a tourist and sightseeing destination. The real transformation took place thanks to the initiative of the chairman of the Shklov district executive committee, Alexander Boyko, who proposed creating a fabulous place for children, not inferior in atmosphere to the residence of Santa Claus, but accessible to every child.

Interestingly, all the work on the improvement of the complex was carried out by the Shklov residents themselves, the organizations of the district that took over the patronage of various facilities. There is a Gratitude Board at the entrance with the names of all those who contributed to this good endeavor.

In December 2013, the premiere of the program "Tales of Bald Mountain" took place, which was immediately loved by both children and adults. Today, the complex is open all year round, and its territory is constantly being updated with new fabulous elements.

The tour starts at a large carved wooden gate. One gong is enough, and they open, inviting you into a magical world. The guests are greeted by a stone at the fork of three roads with inscriptions: "If you go to the right, you will get into a fairy tale", "If you go to the left, you will find friends", "If you go straight, you will find fun".

Favorite characters come to life here: twelve months, the Frog Princess, Masha and the Bear, Baba Yaga in his hut on chicken legs. There is also a Baba Yaga stupa on chains, in which you can swing. In winter, guests are greeted by Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden at the Shklov residence.

In the house of ethnography "Mary the Craftsman" they introduce you to the Belarusian way of life and folk traditions, and in the "Cucumber House" (after all, the Shklov land is famous for its cucumbers!) You can try some treats. There are theatrical performances, games, rituals and contests in which both children and adults are happy to participate.
