Shereshevo. The Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
In the village of Shereshevo, Pruzhany district, there is a small wooden church at the local cemetery, which was consecrated in honor of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. In 1760, during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, when the Prechistenskaya Church was built in the village, the old temple building, which was erected in 1700, was moved to the local cemetery.
During the Russian Empire in 1820-1824, the church was rebuilt and consecrated as the Church of Peter and Paul. Initially, the shrine apparently belonged to the Uniates, and in the 19th century the temple was handed over to Orthodox believers.
There are many interesting figures buried in the cemetery next to the church. One of the most famous is the grave of Mikhail Bobrovsky (1784-1848), a theologian, historian, slavist and philologist, Doctor of Theology, a scientist and public figure, professor at the Vilno University. In the last years of his life, M. Bobrovsky served as a priest in a local church. The priest is buried at the eastern altar wall.
The monument was erected in the classical style in the traditions of Belarusian folk wooden architecture. The building is one-room. It consists of two main parts: a prayer hall and an apse. The main volume is covered with a gable roof. The main facade is decorated with a portico with six columns and is completed with a triangular pediment. The interior of the church is painted with polychrome coloring based on religious themes. The church is active.
