Shereshevo. Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
The stone Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas is located in the center of Shereshevo, Pruzhany district. The church was consecrated in November 1873 in a solemn ceremony. The building was designed by Grodno architect Yakov Fordon (1808-1888), who was the author of many famous religious buildings in Western Belarus.
The consecration was conducted by the archpriest of the church from Pruzhany, Andrei Chervyakovsky, with the help of 4 more priests. A choir from two public schools sang at the festival: Sukhopolsky and Muravsky. Local priest Mikhail Tokarevsky delivered a solemn speech. The cost of building the temple was about thirteen thousand rubles and the construction of the temple was financed from the state budget.
Parishioners also donated their own funds for the construction and for the purchase of church items. Donations were used to buy an icon for 860 rubles, a panikadila for 50 rubles, and a kiosk for storing the Holy Gifts. Peasants Ivan Khwasevich and Grigory Boyko purchased the altar Gospel for 55 rubles. Peasant Danila Maslevich purchased 2 banners for 50 rubles. Andrey Lazhkevich bought two candlesticks for 40 rubles, and Priest Joseph Kunakhovich bought a blue Silk candle holder for 25 rubles. Many others have also donated.
The church worked in Soviet times. In recent years, the monument has been renovated.
