Shereshevo. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin. The Bell tower.

In the center of the village of Shereshevo, Pruzhany district, there is a unique architectural monument - the wooden bell tower of the former Uniate church. Once there was a wooden church next to the bell tower, which was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1517. Then the temple was rebuilt in 1760.

In 1803, during a fire, the old plebania was destroyed and, thanks to the efforts of priest Anthony Pribyshevich and Prince Adam Czartoryski, the building was restored. At the beginning of the 19th century, three chapels were assigned to the church.

At that time, Mikhail Bobrovsky, a well-known Belarusian scientist and public figure, a teacher at Vilnius University, served at the church. He conducted divine services in the Belarusian language.

At that time, handwritten Gospels from the 15th and 16th centuries were used in the church for services. This valuable book, along with ancient icons and the iconostasis of the 18th century, is now in the National Art Museum in Minsk.

After the union was banned in the Russian Empire in 1839, the church was handed over to Orthodox believers and the church was consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Virgin. After the Great Patriotic War in the 1960s, the church was demolished. All that remains of the church is the wooden bell tower, which was built in 1799 in the classical style. The bell tower is two-tiered square in plan. It has a height of 18 meters. The roof is covered with wood chips.
