The Little Prince

During the celebration of the 750th anniversary of Mogilev, the city received a touching gift - after reconstruction, a fountain with a sculpture of a Little Prince watering a rose was inaugurated in Komsomolsky Square. The author of the work was the famous Mogilev sculptor Andrei Vorobyov, who had been hatching this idea for about 10 years. The sculpture embodies sincerity, honesty and responsibility, and its modesty and poetry emphasize the love and awe with which the Little Prince takes care of his rose.

At the opening ceremony, Mayor Vladimir Tsumarev thanked the municipal services, especially Gorvodokanal and its director Valery Timoshenko, for their work on the reconstruction of the fountain. Now this place with new tiles, beautiful lighting and updated technical equipment will become a favorite place for residents and guests of Mogilev to relax. With the appearance of the Little Prince, a new tradition arose in the city — to wash your hands with water from a watering can, which symbolizes the call of the hero of the fairy tale to take care of himself and his home.

The sculpture of the Little Prince refers to the allegorical tale of the same name by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, first published in 1943. This book, translated into 300 languages and published in over 140 million copies, tells the story of the Little Prince's travels around different planets, his encounter with Earth and reflections on friendship, love, loneliness and human nature. The author's drawings, which have become an integral part of the work, break down language barriers and make the tale understandable to everyone.

The image of the Little Prince is autobiographical: it reflects the author's longing for childhood and his philosophical view of the world. The rose watered by the Little Prince symbolizes love, and the Fox symbolizes friendship, which teaches loyalty and responsibility. The tale, written in New York after the Nazi occupation of France, became Saint-Exupery's most successful work and inspired many adaptations in film, theater, music and other art forms.
