The Church of St. Jacob in the village of Milyuntsy is a monument of architecture in the Neo-Gothic style.
The church in the village of Milyuntsy was built in the early 20th century in the Neo-Gothic style. There are only a few similar churches in Belarus, representing the architecture of "pure" medieval Gothic. Neo-Gothic became popular in the middle of the 19th century, combining the best features of the Gothic style and becoming more accessible to people.
The architects used elements of style to express the character of the buildings and emphasize their functionality.
For example, the Church of St. Jacob has three naves and two towers with crosses, which symbolizes the religious building. The arched windows and the majestic pointed arch above the entrance give it personality. The entrance portal reflects the arch, creating a false perspective effect, and the rose window with stained glass adds grace.
The decor of the church is simple and elegant: it uses round rosettes with relief crosses.
The interior contains stained glass windows and small sculptures with religious content.
The territory is fenced with a stone fence and is surrounded by greenery.
Saint Jacob, the patron saint of the temple, one of the twelve apostles, was famous for his martyrdom and protection of the faithful.
In 1990-1994, the Church of St. Jacob in the village of Milyuntsy was restored.
This amazing church in the Vitebsk region is a symbol of the Belarusian identity. A beautiful architectural monument, which is about 130 years old!
If you are traveling in the Braslav region, then it is worth stopping here. You can also combine the Plater manor in Opsa and the village of Drisvyaty on the trip.
