The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is an architectural monument of the retrospective Russian style.
The Church of Peter and Paul in the village of Drisvyaty was built thanks to the financial support of Elena von Hildenbandt, who came from the ancient Russian Zolotarev family, and her husband. The temple is dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The history of the village of Drisvyaty dates back several centuries. Archaeological finds indicate the emergence of a settlement in the 11th-13th centuries. The beginning of the story is connected with the Castle Island, located near the modern village. The inhabitants left the island and moved to the main territory only in 1682 by Sapieha's decree. There are still many legends associated with Castle Island. According to one of them, the island buildings and the castle were destroyed during the war with the Swedes, and the valuables were hidden in the castle's dungeons, where no one has been able to enter since.
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is an Orthodox church established at the very beginning of the twentieth century. It is an example of the retrospective Russian style, which is clearly visible in its architectural solutions.
The exterior of the temple is distinguished by recognizable decorative elements borrowed from ancient Russian architecture, such as semicircular arches and bulbous domes. These features are borrowed from the Russian architectural tradition. The facades are decorated with decorative motifs typical of ancient Russian architecture. Plastered fragments of facades combined with red brick give the building a special expressiveness. The temple's structure includes a bell tower, an entrance hall, a main hall, a vestibule, a main volume and an apse. Its architectural decor contains elements typical of 17th century Russian Baroque, such as melon columns and bulbous domes.
A visit to the Church of Peter and Paul in the village of Drisvyaty is provided by many sightseeing tours and weekend tours in Belarus. This temple will not leave anyone indifferent!
