Izabelin. The Church of the Archangel Michael.
The first mention of the town of Izabelin dates back to the 16th century. The name of the place in those days was completely different - Petukhovichi. The owners here were various famous gentry and magnate representatives of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania: the widow of Marshal Wojciech Janowicz Marina Glebovna, Klochki, Dorogostajski and Sapieha, Kurchi, Fleming and Grabowski.
In the 18th century, the name Petukhovichi was changed to Izabelin, in honor of his daughter Isabella, by Ian Fleming.
In the 18th century, the Grabovskis financed the Calvinist sbor, which was known throughout the region. At the same time, a stone church building in the Baroque style was being built in the center of the village. In 1863, after a lightning strike, a strong fire broke out in the church during which the roof and the bell tower burned down. Repairs were carried out and the church was handed over to Orthodox believers and consecrated in honor of St. Michael the Archangel.
The solemn consecration took place in November 1863, when several thousand believers gathered. In honor of this event, valuable gifts were sent from the Romanov imperial family: church books and liturgical vestments for priests. At the church, the parish was considered to consist of 17 villages. There were two parochial schools and a public school. There were 2 ministers at the church: a psalmist and a priest.
The church was built in the Baroque style. It is covered with a gable roof. A four-tiered bell tower rises above the triangular pediment. The interior has choirs. Among the ancient icons there are "The Removal of the Cross", "Paraskeva the long-suffering" of the 18th century and others.
