The Fire Tower is one of the tallest and most recognizable buildings in the city, located at the intersection of the oldest streets in the city. It was built in 1870. Initially, the tower was built of wood, then it was reconstructed, made taller, and more reliable and durable materials were used. Today, there is an active fire and rescue unit here.

Fire tower.
The prototype of the Fire Tower is the Vasilyevskaya watchtower in St. Petersburg. The tower is 32 meters high, which made it possible to see even the smallest fire. The tower consists of several tiers, each of which is different from the others. The external design of the tower is quite interesting: window openings of different shapes, figured masonry. On the upper tier there is an observation deck.
The brickwork of the tower has survived to this day in excellent condition. Above the fire station building there is a fresco depicting people in military uniform and fire service employees in uniforms from different periods. Among them we see a girl. An amazing fact: if you look closely at the image of the girl, you can see that it is Mona Lisa herself.
Also, a tradition has been preserved here since ancient times: every day at 12 o'clock a bugler comes out to the tower and plays a certain melody, informing residents that everything is calm in the city.
The Museum of the History of the Fire Service is open in the building adjacent to the fire tower. The exposition of this museum presents us with various photographs, documents and objects that allow us to trace the history of the development of firefighting in the city and the region.
