Description

In the regional town of Zelva, even from afar, as you drive up, you will immediately notice two towers of the Catholic church. The Church of the Holy Trinity was built in the early 20th century in the Neo-Gothic style with elements of the Neo-Romanesque style. The likely architect is the Pole Jozef Pius Dzekonski.

After the war, the church was closed and there was a granary and a store. After the collapse of the USSR, restoration was carried out. The church is functioning. The territory of the church is decorated with ornamental plants.

Zelva. Holy Trinity Church

The first church in Zelva was built in the 15th century.

The architectural dominant in the town is the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity. The temple with the distant something resembles a medieval castle.


The temple was built in the Neo-Gothic style in 1913. Architect Joseph Pius Dzekonsky (1844-1927). The architect was born in Lithuania and was one of the most famous representatives of eclecticism and historicism in Poland. 


After the Great Patriotic War in Soviet times, the church was closed and the room was adapted for a store and a granary. The church was returned to the Catholic faithful in 1989. Repairs were carried out. The church is functioning.


The church is three-nave. The main facade is decorated with two multi-tiered towers. The towers are completed with tall spires. The building is covered with a hip roof. The main entrance is designed as a gallery with wide semicircular lancet openings. Above the entrance there are images of three sculptures of saints. The main volume of the prayer hall and the multifaceted apse are reinforced with buttresses. The walls are pierced by lancet windows. The windows are decorated with stained glass windows.

A stone fence has been erected around the church. The adjacent territory is decorated with decorative trees and shrubs.
