Description

This is the only museum of insects and beekeeping in Belarus. It was opened in 2006. The museum in the village of Voronichi is not a museum of crows ('Voron' means Crow), but as it is called - a museum of honey, bees and butterflies. The founders of this unusual museum are a married couple, Sergey and Lilia Mikonovich, biologists by training.

The Manor-Museum is a real educational center where nature, and various insects of Belarus are popularized. Here they talk about the life of bees and beekeeping, about the use of propolis, royal jelly and bee venom, about various types of butterflies, are treated to herbal tea and taste different varieties of honey.

Manor-museum "Staraya Ves'" (Old Village).

A guided tour of the estate-museum is conducted by the owner of the estate. It starts right at the apiary.

The museum consists of three exhibitions.

The first is a demonstration hive and a bee apiary, which houses more than 30 bee colonies in hives of six different designs. Bee families are placed in the decks. Visitors get acquainted with the structure of hives, the difference between their various designs, the life of a bee family in nature, the collection of pollen by bees, and the skills of caring for them.

The second exhibition is dedicated to beekeeping. Museum visitors will learn about the history of bee husbandry from Ancient Egypt to the present, about the biology and behavior of bees. The exhibitions showcase beekeeping tools and equipment, as well as bee products. : confectionery, sweets, alcoholic beverages, medicines based on propolis, bee venom, royal jelly, cosmetics, chemical industry products. Medicines for the prevention and treatment of bees themselves are also presented here.

A separate shelf contains honey samples packaged in original dishes in different countries. At the end of this stage of the tour, visitors can taste tea made from linden flowers and mint from a samovar mixed with various types of honey in the fresh air.

In the next room of the museum there is a collection of insects, collected by the owner of the museum, a professional ecologist for more than 40 years. There are more than four thousand insect specimens on display, more than half of which are butterflies. Almost all the insects are caught in Belarus. The collection includes representatives of fourteen insect orders.: dragonflies, beetles, bedbugs, brooks, cockroaches, wasps and many others.

In the fall of 2015, the collection was expanded with almost a hundred butterflies from Indonesia, Primorsky Region and Southeast Asia. The owner of the museum received these insects from collectors from different countries in exchange for representatives of the Belarusian fauna.

All the things in the manor museum are associated with insects: souvenirs, tableware, tulle, wallpaper, ceramic tiles, lamps, books about insects and special literature, photo albums, vases, clocks, napkins and even bottles of wine. There are numerous butterfly panels on the walls. On the coffee table there is a selection of newspapers and magazines that tell about the museum and an album with photographs reflecting the history of the estate.

The museum is one of the 15 most unusual museums in Belarus. Since its foundation, it has been visited by guests from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Ireland, Germany, Holland, and England, Denmark, France, USA, Canada, the Baltic States, Turkmenistan, and even from China, Austria, and Argentina. More than 500 guests come to this small museum every year. If desired, every vacationer can take away from the estate seedlings of coniferous, beautifully flowering and other ornamental garden plants, as well as honey and bee products. The master has already got his first disciples, his followers. He is sure that some of them will surpass him. Sergey Ivanovich has a cherished dream - to visit Madagascar and Sri Lanka, to get acquainted with the butterflies that live there. If desired, you can stay overnight in the summer house at the manor. The hosts are always happy to welcome their guests.

The Staraya Ves' farmstead simultaneously provides several types of services in the field of agroecotourism: on the one hand, it is a real museum, on the other - a manor house, where visitors receive a full range of services for recreation, accommodation and meals in rural areas. The house has all the amenities, and there is enough space in the courtyard to accommodate a tent camp.

Adjacent to the village is an excellent mushroom and berry mixed forest. Zelvensky Reservoir is 5 km away, and the nearest ponds are 3.5 km away. In the old garden, under the shade of century-old apple trees, there is a playground with swings, a slide, an inflatable pool and various toys.

The priority of recreation on the estate is a calm, family vacation in silence. The owners can provide bicycles, their own transport for excursions to the surrounding places.

If desired, you can visit the fortress-church in the village of Synkovichi (35 km), Zhirovichi monastery.

A rest at the manor-museum "Staraya Ves'" in the village of Voronichi will not leave indifferent visitors who prefer holidays in Belarus.
