Description
The ruins of the Church of the Intercession, built at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in the late Baroque style, are located in the village of Ivashkovichi. Today, there is almost no data on how the church looked before. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during the First World War and has not been rebuilt since.
Not far from the church there is an ancient burial ground with more than 200 graves.

The ruins of the Church of the Intercession in Ivashkovichi.
The ruins of the Church of the Intercession, visible at the entrance to the village of Ivashkovichi, are located on a small hill. The architectural complex previously included a church, a bell tower, a temple and a stone fence. Archaeologists believe that the church was built in the 17th century on the site of the old Uniate cemetery.
During the fighting against the Kaiser's troops, the temple buildings suffered damage. Eyewitnesses said that the cavalrymen opened fire on the bell tower, where the Germans had set up an observation post. The temple did not completely collapse due to the durable limestone quarried in the area.
The Orthodox Church was also seriously damaged during the Great Patriotic War. At that time, the villagers left the village, fleeing from the Nazis.
There is an ancient cemetery next to the temple, discovered in 1980, with about 250 graves, but no excavations have been carried out, and the exact date of burial is unknown.
Today, nature and time continue to destroy the remains of the building more and more. Some details, such as the brickwork and remnants of decorative elements, can still be seen.
The ruins of the Church of the Intercession in Ivashkovichi represent an important evidence of the architectural heritage of that time and are part of the historical heritage of the region. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in such facilities...
