Vitebsk. City Hall.
Vitebsk Town Hall is an architectural monument of republican significance. It was built in the 18th century with elements of Vilnius Baroque and Classicism. Originally, the town hall was built of wood after Vitsebsk was granted Magdeburg rights in 1597, and the town magistrate worked in the town hall. And already in 1775, a brick town hall was erected, which became the architectural dominant of Central Square. After the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Vitebsk was annexed to the Russian Empire and the Magdeburg law was abolished, and the police department, the main court, the police station, and the city council from the second half of the 19th century worked in the building. The architecture of the structure is as follows: a rectangular two-story building, in the center of which rises a multi-tiered tower, which is completed by a tent with a spire. The main facade of the town hall faces the river Vitsba. The tower is built in the late Baroque style, and the main body of the town hall is in the Classicist style. In the 19th century, a garlic was installed on the tower. And in 1911, the third floor was added to the town hall. Now the Vitebsk regional museum of local history is located next to the building of the town hall.
