Fyodor Makhnov was born at the end of the 19th century in one of the villages of Vitebsk district. From a young age, he showed extraordinary physical abilities. It was said that he could lift a heavy cart with only one hand, and even the largest firewood could easily fit on his shoulders. The locals, knowing about his powers, often asked him for help and he always responded.

As a teenager, he began touring with the circus, and then there were independent tours around the world, during which he had a meeting with the President of the United States, with the Queen of England, with the Chancellor of Germany, and an official reception with the Pope.

It is known that Fyodor was not only a strong man, but also a kind man. He used his power for the benefit of others. When he died, Vitebsk residents decided to perpetuate the memory of the giant. Inspired by his life, a local artist-sculptor created a magnificent monument, which was unveiled on the central street of the city. Fyodor is depicted in full height with a kind smile on his face.

Every year, the monument to Fyodor Makhnov is becoming more and more popular. People admire not only his size and height, but also the kindness and courage of a giant. Guides tell tourists stories about Fedor near the monument. It is also a favorite place for photos.
