Vitebsk. Resurrection Church.

If you are walking in the historical center of Vitebsk, your attention will definitely be attracted by the view of the unusually beautiful temple, which is located to the left of the town hall, on the former shopping square. The Resurrection Church was built in the years 1772-1779 in the style of the Vilnius Baroque of that time as a Uniate church on the foundation of Vitebsk resident Mikalai Smyk with the help of a workshop of Cossack craftsmen. Here, in this place, once there was already a wooden Resurrection Church. During the war with Napoleon in 1812, the French created a fodder warehouse in the temple. In 1834, it was handed over to Orthodox believers. The temple was demolished in 1936.

It was restored in 2008 on the same foundations. The church was built in the late Vilnius Baroque style, and the interior was decorated in the Rococo style. The temple is a brick one-nave two-tower building with a semicircular apse, above which rises the "crown" - a wavy pediment. The main facade also has an undulating plane with rich stucco decoration. Between the towers is a figured portico. The Resurrection Church is located in the historical heart of Vitebsk, surrounded by many interesting monuments and buildings. Just in front of the church is a monument to the Grand Duke Algerd of Lithuania. And to the right and in front of the church are pedestrian streets.
