Vitebsk. House-museum of Marc Chagall.

Perhaps the most famous museum in Vitebsk is the museum of the world-famous artist Marc Chagall. The museum consists of two departments: the Marc Chagall House Museum, which is located on Pokrovskaya Street on the outskirts of the city, not far from the railway and bus stations, and the Marc Chagall Arts Center, which is located in the historical center of Vitebsk. On Pokrovskaya Street, the house of M. Chagall, built by the artist's father at the beginning of the 20th century from red brick, which was widely used in construction at that time, miraculously survived. And it was in this building that Chagall spent his most romantic youth. The museum was opened in 1997, the exposition presents exhibits from the life of the then city dweller at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum presents archival documents and personal belongings of Marc Chagall and his family. Not many of such valuable exhibits have survived, but the museum artifacts were selected using M. Chagall's drawings, which he wrote down from memory while restoring the interiors of his parents' house. The museum staff and specialists have managed to create a unique, cozy atmosphere in the museum that will not leave anyone indifferent after visiting the exhibition.
