On the very bank of the Zachodnya Dvina river in the upper town of the historical center, the Marc Chagall Art Center is comfortably located in the green square. The world-famous artist glorified Vitsebsk far beyond the borders of Belarus, and that is why many places in Vitsebsk that decorate the thousand-year-old city are dedicated to M. Chagall. One of the most interesting places in Vitebsk dedicated to Chagall is the Marc Chagall Art Center, which is located in an ancient two-story red brick building. The art center was opened back in 1992, and the collection contains original works by Marc Chagall: a series of illustrations to Nikolai Gogal's poem "Dead Souls" (1923-1925), a cycle of color lithographs "12 Tribes of Israel" (1960), color lithographs " Bible", created in 1956 and 1960s. Part of the building is an exhibition hall where exhibitions and creative meetings take place. The building itself is located in a beautiful square on the former Governor's Square, in the center of which is a beautiful monument to the events of the war of 1812, the former governor's palace and the graves of heroes of the last war.
