Smolyany. Church of the Virgin Mary.

The town of Smolyany has a centuries-old history and several architectural monuments have been preserved here. If you are going to travel, it is better to leave your car at the former market square, which is now a grocery store and a bus stop. And take a walking tour of Smolyany. Immediately behind the shop you can see the church tower. The church of the Virgin Mary rises above the town. In 1680, the owners of Smolyany, the magnates Sangushki, founded a church and a monastery of the Catholic order of Dominicans. The first buildings were wooden. And the brick church and monastery were built only in the middle of the 18th century in the late Baroque style. During the Russian Empire in the 19th century, the monastery was closed and gradually began to decline. And in Soviet times, the church was also closed, and a machine - a tractor station - was used in its premises.

The church was built in the late Vilnius Baroque style – a three-nave two-tower basilica with a transept. The main facade is wavy with niches for sculptures. The towers are multi-tiered, between which there is a figured pediment. There are controversies in the church. The church and the monastery are currently neglected and require urgent restoration. In recent years, the architectural complex has been surrounded by a fence.
