The park of stones "Pamyat u Kamyani" (Memory in Stone) is a symbol of the historical memory of the people.
The village of Rubezhevichi originated in the 16th century, representing a fairly extensive populated place located in a picturesque mountainous area between the Sulla and Pereklet rivers.
In the past, this territory was part of the Principality of Slutsk, and in the middle of the XVI century, the Lithuanian border passed here, stretching from Brest to Pskov lands. Perhaps the name "Rubezhevichi" is due to the fact that it was the outskirts of Lithuania, or "Rubezh" (frontier).
There are many historical sites in the village that have become an important part of not only local but also national history. Catholics and representatives of the Jewish community lived here for a long time, which left a vivid mark on the cultural tradition of the region.
Today Rubezhevichi is an agro–town with a characteristic atmosphere. Its main feature is the Church of St. Joseph, built in the 20th century. A fascinating object is the stone park, opened on June 13, 2006, which includes 46 stones representing villages associated with the parish of the church. The stones are arranged as the villages are located on the map and each one has a name written on it. This is a kind of "stone map". From each boulder there is a path made of sand, which leads to the central path leading to the symbol of faith — a cross, also made of stone..
The creation of the stone park was timed to coincide with the centenary of the founding of the Rubezhevichi Church of St. Joseph. The alley of stones was created here thanks to the funds of the parishioners of the cathedral.
Each stone here represents people and their destinies, forming a unique chronicle of this place. The park of stones is a symbol of the historical memory of the people and is called "Memory in stone".
A very unusual place!
