The iconic structure, symbolizing the entrance to the city, is a symbol of the capital, its business card.
The gates of Minsk are two eleven-storey towers placed symmetrically to each other. They were built in 1953 according to the project of the then famous Leningrad architect Boris Rubanenko. The buildings were built in the style of the so-called Stalinist classicism and are the completion of five-storey residential buildings.
Initially, the upper tiers of the buildings had spires along the perimeter, as well as sculptural compositions of a soldier, a worker, a collective farmer and an engineer with a height of more than 3 meters. They were also decorated with decorative elements with images of Belarusian flowers, bison, ornaments from Slutsk belts. In the 1970s, they were dismantled due to their destruction.
Today, one of the twin towers is decorated with the coat of arms of the former BSSR, and the other is a clock with a dial diameter of 3.5 meters and a minute hand length of 1.69 meters. They are the largest in Belarus and came to our country from Germany more than a hundred years ago, after the Second World War.
Now the clock has a modern electronic mechanism, the facades of the towers have been restored, new sculptures have been installed from durable material on the upper tiers of the buildings.
Today, the monumental majestic structure of the Soviet era is very unusually combined with the modern station building. The Minsk Gate has become not only an important transport hub connecting different types of public transport, but also a tourist attraction.
The architectural complex of two towers creates the effect of the main "entrance" to the city, symbolizing its openness and hospitality. Spectacular lighting of buildings in the evening creates a cozy atmosphere.
The Minsk Gate complex is a symbol of the modernization of Minsk architecture and urban infrastructure. It attracts the attention of both locals and tourists, embodying the dynamic development of the city and its openness to guests, creating a positive impression of the capital of Belarus.
