Description

Troitskoe suburb is a picturesque medieval quarter on the banks of the Svisloch River in the very center of Minsk. Cozy streets, stylized houses with tiled roofs in the Trinity suburb have become one of the main symbols of the capital, representing today a part of the historical reconstruction of Minsk.

The Trinity suburb has been known for a long time: since the end of the XIV century, when the first Catholic church of the city was built on a high hill – Minsk Fara, consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. A shopping area gradually appeared around the temple, which eventually grew into the largest Minsk market, and the area adjacent to Svisloch became a place where taverns and taverns were built.

In 2004, the historical reconstruction of the Trinity Suburb was started, which over time was incorporated into the Old Town complex. After the restoration, the place turned into a natural open-air museum. During the restoration of the area, the foundations of houses built back in the XVII century were used.

Minsk. Trinity suburb.

If you want to travel not only in space, but also in time, then you definitely need to visit the Trinity suburb of Minsk to feel the atmosphere of old Minsk.

The name of the suburb most likely comes from the Trinity Church, founded by Grand Duke Jagiello. By the way, this was the first Catholic church in Minsk. Another version testifies to the existence of the toponym "Troitskaya Gora", from which the suburb received its name. The settlement of Troitskaya Gora arose in the XII-XIII centuries. on a hill near the Svisloch River. In ancient times, the suburb was a shopping center where roads from Vilna, Polotsk, Smolensk, Mogilev intersected, and since the end of the XVI century, the city's largest trading platform, the Trinity Market, was located here.

The suburb was built up with wooden houses, in which artisans, merchants, peasants and military lived. The ancient layout of the suburb disappeared in the early 19th century after a great fire and was restored in stone. In the 30-60s of the twentieth century, individual buildings of the suburb and entire streets were destroyed. In the 1980s and early 2000s, restoration work was carried out to recreate the architectural appearance of Minsk.

In 2004, the historical reconstruction of the Trinity Suburb was started, which over time was incorporated into the Old Town complex. After restoration, it turned into a natural open-air museum, where you can see the stone buildings of the XIX century.

In 2009, the square, where the market was located several centuries ago, received the historical name of Troitskaya Gora. The National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of Belarus, built in the 1930s, is also located here.

The Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature is located in the Troitsk suburb. Maxim Bogdanovich, the founder of Belarusian literature, was born here in the suburb, but his house has not been preserved, and a memorial has been erected on this site. The Maxim Bogdanovich Literary Museum is located nearby. The Nature House hosts interesting exhibitions dedicated to flora and fauna. There is also a craft gallery, various cafes and shops in the Trinity suburb. Including the famous bookstore "Vyanok", stylized as a bookshop of the XIX century.

The sculpture "Girl with an owl" is an unspoken symbol of the Trinity suburb. The sculpture represents a girl holding an owl in her hand and standing with her bare foot on a fern. One wing of the owl is curved (the owl seems to protect the girl), the second is wide open (the owl shows them the way). There are three blooming buds on a fern leaf, and a lizard is sitting next to them. The sculptural composition is located on a large boulder, next to which there are two more.

Troitskoye suburb is a tourist mecca of the Belarusian capital, where you can see what Minsk looked like several centuries ago, as well as get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Minsk.
