Oktyabrskaya Street is the epicenter of entertainment, one of the busiest and most modern streets in Minsk.
The history of Oktyabrskaya Street in Minsk dates back to the 16th century, when it served as an overland road along the Svisloch River. Originally known as Lyakhovskaya, then Nizhnelyakhovskaya, and later Voroshilov Street, it received its current name only in 1961.
At the end of the 19th century, the street acquired an industrial character due to the proximity of the railway and the river. Its appearance was formed by red brick buildings, and the first enterprises appeared here in the 19th-20th centuries.
However, the street remained sparsely populated until 2010. The impetus for her transformation was given by a local photo studio that moved here in 2010. Other companies close in spirit followed her, and the street began to gain popularity.
The uniqueness of Oktyabrskaya Street lies in the fact that creative spaces are now located in former factory premises and industrial buildings, and the street itself, which used to be used only by workers and students, has become a point of attraction for young people. This trend came to us from the USA and Europe, and Oktyabrskaya Street is a vivid example of a global trend.
The business card of Oktyabrskaya is large–scale graffiti on buildings, which appeared thanks to the Vulica Brazil festival. This event, which took place here annually from 2014 to 2019, brought together Belarusian and Brazilian artists. Today, everyone can enjoy the fruits of their creativity, because the street has turned into an open-air gallery.
In addition, the street is a platform for cultural initiatives offering workshops and other events. Oktyabrskaya has almost everything you need for life: restaurants, coffee shops and cafes, bars, a yoga center, a dance school, fitness clubs, spaces for courses, entertainment centers, shops. Bike rental is also available for outdoor enthusiasts. The list of places is constantly updated.
There are popular cafes here, for which people come from all over the city.
It's fun to visit Oktyabrskaya Street at any time of the year. It's worth it to see how an industrial area with factories has turned into a popular place with many urban establishments.
