Description
In the town of Nizhny Terebezhov, Stolin district, there is a wooden church of St. Elijah. The city is located in the very south of the district and therefore few people come here. The park that belonged to the Olesha family, along with the Neo-Gothic palace, has been preserved here. The palace itself has not been preserved, and the park has been given the status of a natural monument.
St. Elijah's Church was built in the 18th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. According to some sources, the temple was built during the time of the Russian Empire. But the architecture shows that the temple is ancient, built in the traditions of folk wooden architecture with Baroque features. The church was closed in Soviet times. After the collapse of the USSR, the building was returned to believers and repairs were carried out. The church is active.

Nizhny Terebezhov. St. Elijah's Church.
There are two villages in the very south of Stolin district: Nizhny (Low) and Verkhny (Upper) Terebezhov.
The village of Nizhny Terebezhov was first mentioned in historical sources during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1558. After the second partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, it became part of the Russian Empire in 1793. During the Empire period, Olesha Manor was built with a neo-Gothic palace. The building has not been preserved to our time. But there is a park with a lake. The park has the status of a natural monument of national importance.
St. Elijah's Church was first mentioned in documents in 1780. According to some information, it is known that the temple originally belonged to Uniate believers. Then the temple was mentioned in documents in 1872. After the Great Patriotic War, the church was closed for a long time and opened only in 1988. In 1993, a wooden bell tower was built near the church. From 1999 to 2015, repairs were carried out in the church: the window and porch were replaced, and the roof was repaired.
The church is a monument of folk wooden architecture. The building consists of four main parts: the vestibule, the refectory, the prayer hall and the apse. A three-tiered bell tower is built over the vestibule. The main volume is covered by a four-pitched roof, which is completed with a small onion. Several graves of priests have been preserved near the church.
