Minsk. Hotel "Europe".
The hotel was originally two-story and was built in the 19th century. It belonged to the Minsk merchant P. Yupinsky. In addition to the hotel, the Frumkin bookstore and library worked here. Then the hotel was purchased by a well-known merchant Veniamin Palyak. At the end of the 19th century, after a fire, the hotel was rebuilt and acquired the name "Europe". Already in 1906-1909, the building was rebuilt in the Art Nouveau style and had 6 floors. At that time, it was the most modern hotel in the Minsk province. There was an elevator, central heating, a telephone and a bath in every room, and you could order a taxi or a horse-drawn carriage right at the entrance. The hotel building was divided by vertical pilasters, and the space between the windows of the upper floors was decorated with sculptural elements with images of women's heads and stucco plant motifs. The building was completed by a complex shaped cornice. A. Saulevich's restaurant worked in the building, where visitors were entertained by an orchestra. A barber shop and a reading room also worked here. During the Soviet period, the hotel gradually fell into disrepair and was destroyed during the war. The building was renovated in 2007, but it is a bit out of place. It had to be moved a few meters, as the street has expanded significantly since then. The modern hotel has eight floors - two of which are underground.
