Minsk. Uniate Church of the Holy Spirit.

In Minsk, on Freedom Square near the Town Hall, there is a former church of the Holy Spirit. The church was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the Upper Market in 1650. The Polotsk burghers donated 2,000 zlotys to the church in 1634. Other patrons also have appeared.

The temple was built for two monasteries: the Uniate order of Basilians, female and male, which were located nearby. The Basilian Monastery was located on Freedom Square itself near the Church of the Holy Spirit, and now trade unions are located in this building. A little further behind the church is the two-storey building of the Y. Glebov Music School, the building of the Basilian convent.

Uniate Metropolitan Anthony Selyava donated 20,000 zlotys to the Basilian monastery in 1651. It is assumed that after his death, the metropolitan was buried in the Church of the Holy Spirit.

At the end of the 18th century, after the partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during the Russian Empire, the Basilic monasteries were closed, and the Church of the Holy Spirit was handed over to Orthodox believers. The Uniate church was rebuilt under the Orthodox Peter and Paul Cathedral.

In 1835, a fire broke out in the temple, and after that the building was restored in the pseudo–Russian style in the 1846-1850s. The construction was carried out according to the project of architect Gustav Valert.

In Soviet times, the church was demolished. In 2011, the church was restored in its original Baroque style.
